A teacher at a school for troubled children was arrested last week for battery and child abuse against a student. Although the teacher claims that he and the student were playing around, the consequences of his actions could lead to severe criminal penalties if he is convicted. The suspect, W.C., was witnessed interacting with a 13-year-old male student earlier this month. The witness saw W.C., a 6'4" man, head butt the student. When the student told the W.C. that it did not hurt, he proceeded to do it one more time.
Concerned about the student and the teacher's conduct, the witness called the Child Abuse Hotline, which sent a police officer to the school. W.C. was brought to a Hillsborough police department and booked on multiple charges. He was released several hours later on $2,500 bail. Despite his flawless record at the school, officials immediately fired W.C. The school later told news sources that it operates on the premise that even children with broken backgrounds and histories can have a bright future.
