On Wednesday the 21st, from 7:00 pm to 12:00 am, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office will conduct compliance checks in District III. This means that throughout Western Hillsborough County, police will be ensuring that bars and other places are not serving alcohol to minors under 21 years old. To do this, the police will often ask teens to participate. For example, a teen could walk into a liquor store and ask to buy alcohol. An officer would want to know if the clerk even carded the teen, or if the clerk allowed the minor to purchase the alcohol in spite of being underage. Sometimes, a clerk or waiter might give in to a bribe. An officer would want to test this so as to find the employees or companies that are serving alcohol to underage minors. It keeps businesses honest to know that they are regularly being checked up on.
There will also be heightened patrol Wednesday night from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am, in all districts of Hillsborough County. This means that there will be more patrols than usual, and these officers will be on high alert. The will be on the lookout for any criminal activity, anything from an attempted break-in to driving under the influence.
