Our client was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident where a vehicle hit a building in Tampa. Officers arrested our client in the area of the accident and spoke with the owner of the vehicle who claimed our client was the driver. Our client's driver's license was suspended and the officers arrested our client for leaving the scene of the crash and driving on a suspended license.
The State was seeking a substantial jail sentence based on our client's prior record for DUI and driving on a suspended license. We were able to argue to the State Attorney that the only witness to the accident was the owner of the vehicle who had motive to allege someone else was driving his vehicle. After hearing our argument, the State agreed to allow our client to enter a plea for court costs only without admitting guilt. Our client received no jail time or probation.
