As a part of its DUI enforcement every month, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office aims to prevent underage drinking and underage DUIs through compliance checks. These events target the local establishments that sell alcoholic beverages to ensure that they are not furnishing minors with alcohol. How this works is that a teen volunteer is sent into a bar, restaurant, or store by a police officer, and the teen will be instructed to ask for an alcoholic drink. If the clerk, waiter, or bartender does not ask for ID, then they could fall into serious legal trouble. If the vendor at any point knowingly gives or sells alcohol to a minor younger than 21, then they could be subject to various criminal
penalties, and the establishment itself could suffer further consequences.
Then in heightened patrols and saturation patrols, there will be additional officers on the lookout for any signs that a driver is under the influence. While the aim of these patrols is to catch any impaired drivers, officers will be alert for any signs of criminal activity, anything from aggressive driving to burglary. Here then are the DUI enforcement events for this week:
Wednesday, January 15, compliance checks are scheduled for
7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. throughout District III, or Western Hillsborough County.
Thursday, January 16, there will be compliance checks in Eastern Hillsborough County, or District II. These are slated to go from
7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
Friday, January 17, a heightened patrol is set to go from
10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. This will be for Southern Hillsborough County (District IV).
Saturday, January 18, throughout Western Hillsborough County, or District III, there will be a saturation patrol going from
10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
