On Monday, a Tampa man was arrested in connection to the 2009 death of
a 3-month-old baby boy that he was babysitting.
T. Miller, 28, was arrested by Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies
at his home located in the 9000 block of Attenbury Drive. Authorities
believe he is the one responsible for the death of the 3-month-old infant
six years earlier.
To date, authorities have not made it clear as to why it took so long to
make an arrest in this case. According to Debbie Carter, the spokeswoman
for the sheriff’s office, Miller has been a suspect since the beginning
of the investigation.
Authorities never gave up on the investigation, and Miller’s arrest
was prompted by recent developments in the homicide case, leading to an
arrest warrant and Miller’s arrest.
Back in September of 2009, Miller was babysitting the 3-month-old boy while
the baby’s mother was out of town on a weekend trip. On September
13, 2009, Miller called the boy’s mother and told her that the baby
wasn’t breathing. The mother told Miller to call 911.
Once on the phone with emergency personnel, neighbors tried to give the
infant CPR per the 911 operator’s instructions over the phone, however,
their desperate attempts failed.
The boy was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital. He did not survive,
he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
After examining the child, the Hillsborough County medical examiner determined
the cause of death as blunt impact to the head; the autopsy also revealed
that the child suffered from bleeding in the brain.
This was not Miller’s first brush with the law. He has been in state
prison twice for drug trafficking, burglary, and grand theft. In March,
he was arrested for battery and released on bond.
