Criminal charges resulting from the investigation range from Filing False and Fraudulent Insurance Claims, to Conspiracy to Commit Racketeering Influence Corrupt Organization (RICO).

Why the focus on insurance fraud? According to statistics compiled by the National Insurance Crime Bureau, fraudulent insurance claims throughout Florida increased 119% from 2008 through 2010. In Tampa, they rose an astonishing 491%, making the city the nation’s epicenter for staged auto accidents.
