The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office plans to set up saturation patrols all over Tampa for Memorial Day weekend. This much-anticipated three-day weekend often encourages individuals to drink extensively.
Deputies will be on the lookout for impaired drivers and will set up their Saturation patrols starting at 12:00 a.m. on Saturday. The sheriff's department is calling this "Operation 3D Saturation." The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the Florida Highway Patrol, and the Tampa Police Department are all partnering together for this effort.
All units will be out with extra patrols and all of the tools necessary to look for and test impaired drivers. Normally, this means that officers will hide in hard-to-see locations, scouting and patrolling the roads. If they see a driver speeding, swerving, driving erratically or violating a traffic signal, they may pull that driver over and perform breath tests. Some officers will doubtless stake out near bars and restaurants selling alcohol. If they see intoxicated drivers leave these restaurants, they may pull over these individuals before they get far down the street.
