68 People Arrested at Gasparilla Pirate Festival

As an event that is known to take over the city of Tampa, the annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival resulted in the gathering of thousands of people for a day of celebration, activities and fun. The Tampa police however were noted for their extensive security measures that were taken in order to provide a safe environment for the people. Having already had a powerful security system installed for a convention months prior, the police decided to utilize the security for the Festival this past weekend. The Tampa Police were seeking to do what was necessary to provide a safe environment for the community to enjoy, keeping a look out for crime, public drinking, etc.

As a result of the weekend festivities, there were a reported 68 adults arrested at the festival this year. Out of the police record totals there were 30 cases of underage drinking, 60 of the people were charged with misdemeanors for things like petty theft, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana. One adult was charged with giving an alcoholic beverage to a minor, as well. Police did mention, however, that the arrests for underage drinking was significantly lower this year than it has been in the past.
