Patrols and Compliance Checks February 6-8 in Hillsborough County

As part of their DUI enforcement, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office will be conducting patrols and vendor checks throughout the Tampa area. While a saturation patrol or heightened patrol means that an increased police force will be particularly attentive to drivers who under the influence, they will also be on the lookout to stop any criminal activity. A patrol can lead to more DUI arrests, but it could just as well yield arrests for burglary, for example.

Then compliance checks are further a part of S.A.V.E.: Sheriff's Alcohol Vendor Enforcement. The purpose of these checks is to ensure that local vendors of alcohol are not furnishing minors with illegal beverages. How this works is that a police officer asks a teen volunteer to approach a clerk, waiter, or bartender, and to ask them for an alcoholic drink. If the vendor refuses to give alcohol to the minor, the teen is allowed to coax the vendor with a bribe. If the vendor fails to ask the minor for their ID, or gives into a bribe, or at any point gives the teen alcohol, then they could face serious legal penalties.

Thursday, February 6, a saturation patrol is scheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. This applies to District III, or Western Hillsborough County.

Thursday, February 6, there will also be compliance checks, but these will take place in District I, Northern Hillsborough County. This is scheduled to go from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Friday, February 7, a heightened patrol will be throughout District II, Eastern Hillsborough County, from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

Saturday, February 8, another saturation patrol will take place, this time in District I. This will go from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
