Cold Case Finally Solved

One officer returned to court after his retirement to watch one of his cold cases finally go to trial.

The officer, once a member of a major crimes unit, first began investigating the rape case in 2002. For all those years, he was unable to pin the sex crimes on one person, although he had several suspects in mind. This month, however, the department was finally able to gather enough evidence to charge a 36-year-old man with raping and impregnating a 12-year-old girl.

If the suspect is found guilty of the charges against him, he could face up to nine years in prison, as well as five years probation. Since he already pleaded guilty to the charges of first-degree rape and impregnation of a minor, he is likely to receive a reduced sentence after working out a plea deal with the prosecution. The victim was the sister of the suspect's 19-year-old girlfriend who, at the time, happened to be living with them.
