Toddler Left Behind at Beach Bring Potential for Child Neglect Charges

If you are a parent, it is essential that you keep track of your children in order to avoid legal issues. According to KTLA News a family in Bay Shore, New York recently fled the ocean side without their toddler in tow. The two-year-old girl was seeing wandering around the beach after a field trip with a day care center. The toddler was being taken care of at the Our Little Darlings Day Care and was among a group of kids that had been taken to the Hecksher State Park Beach on an outing. The police say that the care-givers left the beach with all of the children except for this one little girl.

A woman on the beach saw the little toddler wandering around, and took her to the lifeguard. The lifeguard then notified the police of the incident and heard from the day care center three hours later. The police notified the child’s mother, who was extremely distraught about the issue. She was furious with the day care center, and is thankful that the police are investigating the situation. No formal charges have been placed, but the day care center could be charged with child neglect if there is enough evidence to point to this crime.

In another recent day care faux pas, an Orlando, Florida day care worker was charged with 13 charges of child neglect when she left her charges with a 9-year-old boy so that she could take a break. Child neglect can come with up to five years in prison in some states, including Florida. Neglectful workers can also receive 5 years of probation and up to $5,000 in fines.
