DUI Enforcement August 6 Through 12

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is beginning its DUI enforcement efforts for August with compliance checks. These checks are tests that are run on local vendors of alcohol, and they involve the participation of a teen volunteer. For example, an officer might ask a volunteer to enter a store and ask the clerk for an alcoholic beverage. The test is to see if the clerk will card the teen and refuse to sell, or if the clerk will forget, sell the alcohol anyway, or cave in for a bribe. A failed compliance check could result in criminal penalties.

In addition to these checks, deputies will be patrolling the streets, mainly watching for signs of intoxicated drivers during saturation and heightened patrols. While these are primarily DUI patrols, any suspected signs of criminal actions could lead to an arrest.

Here is when these DUI enforcement events are set to take place:

  • Wednesday, August 6, a round of compliance checks is scheduled for Western Hillsborough County (District III), set to go from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, August 7, a saturation patrol will take place in District III, going from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
  • Friday, August 8 a heightened patrol will be in Northern Hillsborough County (District I), slated for 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
  • Monday, August 11, another set of compliance checks will take place, this time in District I, going from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, August 12, there will be one more round of compliance checks from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., scheduled for Eastern Hillsborough County (District II).
