Gasparilla in Full Force This Weekend in Tampa, FL

Annual festivities for the Gasparilla Pirate Fest have officially begun in Tampa, Florida. This annual festival, which started in 1904, centers around the legend of José Gaspar, a Spanish pirate who is believed to have been in the Southwest Florida region in the late 1700s.

While the Gasparilla Pirate Fest was initially designed to be a one-day event, it has since turned into events that span across three months, starting in late January and running to early March with several parades and activities occurring during that time frame.

One of the largest of these is the Parade of Pirates, also known as the Gasparilla Parade. This parade includes members of the Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla invading downtown Tampa aboard their large pirate ship.

Below, you can see the beginning of the invasion with the José Gasparilla ship.
